Hi everyone! I’m Laura,
for the last 20 years fitness has been a big part of my life. But I wasn’t always fit and confident. As a young child, I was very small and sickly. I never played any sports, or did anything athletic. In my late teens, I contracted a disease that nearly took my life. That illness left my body very weak and it took months to recover. In college, I became very interested in health and fitness. Having experienced illness myself, I wanted to learn why people get sick and how to heal. I studied nutrition, health, and took pre-med classes. Since then, I’ve become a life long learner in those areas. Our bodies are our most precious gift, when given the right tools, the human body is not only capable of repairing and healing, but thriving!
My Fitness Journey
I started running in college, but it wasn’t until my second child was two years old that I decided to step up my game. I hired a coach and started training. I was soon competing in local races, placing in the top three for my age group, and even taking first woman overall. I qualified for the Boston Marathon with a time of 3:33. Running the Boston Marathon was a most exhilarating and rewarding experience that taught me a life lesson-you can do anything you set your mind to. I also learned that even when you feel like you have nothing left, or you can’t take another step, as long as you dig deep, you’ll find the strength to keep going and you can overcome anything!
Overcoming obstacles and finding a new path
After experiencing the personal high of qualifying for the Boston Marathon, I sustained a knee injury. Being sidelined and not able to do what I love, I searched for answers. Soon I realized that in order to keep up with the demands of my training I had to strengthen my body. I found the gym and Pilates. At the gym, I discovered that I loved strength training just as much as running. Seeing my body gain strength was very empowering and motivating! Pilates not only helped with strengthening and the rehabilitation of my knee, it helped me gain mastery of my mind over my body, taught me how to breath (breathing is not always done properly), and how to move more efficiently.
Once recovered, I realized that my passion was helping others and decided to put my focus into personal training. In the summer of 2020 our family relocated from Northern CA to Draper, UT. I am a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher, NASM Certified Personal Trainer, and NASM Certified Nutrition Coach. I bring to the table a 500+ hour Comprehensive Pilates Certification, 4 years experience teaching Pilates and 1:1 personal training. My studio/gym is equipped with Pilates apparatuses and gym equipment. I work privately with clients to help them overcome their injuries, improve their athletic performance, and get them in the best shape of their lives. Seeing the mental and physical transformation my clients experience from our sessions is the most rewarding part of my career.
